Chechan Fault Helicoidal Leveller

 Chechan Fault Helicoidal Leveller

A new version of this subject. There is an earlier one, from a different angle, featured in The Abyssworld book. This is the largest watercolour I have painted for more than ten years, at 76 x 106cm (30"x40"). I spent two full days getting the drawing of the spiral construction correct.

The name of Chechan is from a real place in Chad, which I came across when researching for the novel based on the Abyssworld series, which is coming out soon.

Exhibition Closure

 Abyssworld Exhibition Closure

It is with regret that I have to announce that the Abyssworld exhibition at Primeyarc, in Great Yarmouth, will soon be dismantled. Due to the pandemic restrictions, the gallery has been unable to reopen so far this year. The earliest the venue will be able to reopen is May 18th, as it is run by a charity, and not a commercial gallery space. The regulations seem a little odd in this respect! The space is, not unexpectedly, required for another exhibition.

Many thanks to originalprojects; for hosting this exhibition of 90 works from the Abyssworld series in their wonderful new gallery.

originalprojects; are preparing a short film of the exhibition, which includes a brief interview with the artist.

Overhead Traffic Sign

 Overhead Traffic Sign

This small watercolour (14x19cm) is one of a small series
illustrating highways traversing a big city on Abyssworld.

Working Sketches for the Devil's Fingers

The Devil's Fingers - Preliminary Sketches

This is a typical page from one of my sketchbooks, in which I explore various ideas.
Each of these images is approximately 7.5 x 10cm. The top-right image was later
the basis of the larger watercolour, 56 x 76cm, but with the elements reversed laterally.

Ships Stranded in the Desert

 Stranded in the Desert

Watercolour 14x19cm

The inhabitants of Abyssworld continue with their busy lives despite an evident cataclysmic event,
which must have happened some time ago, judging by the rusty hulk...

The Devil's Fingers - Far Side

The Devil's Fingers - Far Side
Watercolour 56 x 76cm

This watercolour painting shows the same rock feature, but viewed from the opposite side from the previous post. A huge warning sign warns road users of the perils above them!

Note that the exhibition at Primeyarc, in central Great Yarmouth, has been closed temporarily due to the coronavirus lockdown. All being well, this should re-open on December 2nd.

The Devil's Fingers

 The Devil's Fingers

Charcoal on paper 65 x 95cm
This large charcoal drawing describes the Devil's Fingers rock outcrops.
As can be seen, the highway engineers decided to take the shortest route around this feature, despite the obvious danger of future rock collapses!
